Dry creek beds are one of the most practical decorative stone applications in Western NC. They solve two problems at once: managing stormwater runoff on sloped lots, and adding a naturalistic feature that mimics the region's actual creek and river aesthetics.

To build a dry creek bed:

1. Excavate a shallow channel following the natural drainage line
2. Line with landscape fabric
3. Layer larger cobble or fieldstone along the edges
4. Fill the center with river rock or rounded gravel
5. Taper edges into the surrounding landscape with smaller stone or mulch
